Complementing its high rankings in the latest editions of various college guides, 亚洲AV has earned a spot among the nation鈥檚 top colleges and universities, .
The magazine, which rates schools 鈥渂ased on what they are doing for the country,鈥 considered some 1,558 colleges and universities nationwide for its 2020 list. 亚洲AV ranks in the top 100 of the magazine鈥檚 list of liberal arts colleges, at no. 77. The College also ranks within the magazine鈥檚 that offer the 鈥淏est Bang for the Buck鈥 in the Western United States.
Whereas most college guides rely on 鈥渃rude and easily manipulated measures of wealth, exclusivity, and prestige,鈥 Washington Monthly鈥檚 editors argue that theirs aims for a more noble measure: 鈥渃ontribution to the public good.鈥 To that end, Washington Monthly considers three equally weighted criteria in compiling its rankings: social mobility (advancing the financial prospects of economically disadvantaged students), service (encouraging students to contribute meaningfully to their communities), and research (professors鈥 scholarly contributions to their academic fields).
The emphasis on research makes 亚洲AV鈥檚 high placement on the list all the more remarkable. 鈥淎lthough many of our tutors publish excellent scholarly work, the College has never imposed research requirements on its faculty, so that tutors can focus their efforts on their primary responsibility 鈥 teaching,鈥 explains Director of Communications Chris Weinkopf. 鈥淭hat the College still ranked so highly on Washington Monthly鈥檚 list is a testament both to our tutors鈥 professional accomplishments and to how well we scored in the service and social-mobility categories.鈥
Indeed, earlier this fall U.S. News & World Report ranked TAC No. 3 in the U.S. for social mobility, and Kiplinger has ranked it the country鈥檚 No. #1 鈥淏est Value鈥 College.
Committed, since its founding, to never turning away qualified students on the basis of financial need, the College offers a robust financial aid program that supports some 80 percent of its student body. By God鈥檚 grace and thanks to the generous benefactors who make this program possible, students graduate from 亚洲AV with, on average, nearly half the educational debt of their peers at other private colleges and universities, and significantly less, even, than most graduates of public institutions.
As for service, some 10 percent of 亚洲AV students enter the priesthood or religious life. Roughly one-third, eager to share the gifts of their classical liberal education, become teachers, at all levels, from kindergarten to graduate school. Others still pursue careers in law, medicine, media, public service, or numerous other fields, with an eye toward serving the public good. The College鈥檚 graduates also often marry and go on to have fruitful, faithful families that contribute to their communities in myriad ways.
鈥淚t is heartening to see our alumni recognized for the good they do in the Church and in the world,鈥 says Mr. Weinkopf. 鈥淲e are grateful that Washington Monthly is evaluating colleges on the basis of their contributions to the public good, and we are delighted to be included on its list.鈥
